3D Texturing and Concept Rendering

Brief:

For this assignment I had to improve my 3D assets from the previous task with Substance Painter or Blender by applying my branding along with materials to create fully textured assets ready for rendering. Again, to support my work, I’ll include reference images of my designs and screen captures detailing the development process. These captures will feature wireframes, orthographic views, and other relevant information that influenced my design choices.

UV Unwrapping

UV unwrapping is a crucial initial step I undertook to progress with my next task in Blender. This is the process of flattening out the surface of a 3D model onto a 2D plane, like unwrapping the surface of a globe onto a flat map. In Blender, it involves creating a UV map, which represents how textures will be applied to the model. Once unwrapped, the UV map can be edited and painted on in texture painting software like Blender’s built-in texture painting tool or external programs like Substance Painter.

I opted to utilize the built-in tool within Blender because I find the program more enjoyable and intuitive to work with.

Design development:

I initiated the design process in Blender, opting to complete the entire modelling and design journey within the software. Throughout this process, I conducted numerous experiments with textures and colours to refine the aesthetic of the project. These explorations are showcased in the subsequent figures, illustrating the evolution of the design as it progressed.

Final Products:

The final products from the Sanctuary Box “Bliss Bloom”, are now complete with textures, materials, and branding applied.
